MINEHEAD Second XI were in Somerset Cricket League Division Three action on Saturday when they played against Bishops Hull Firsts who, after winning the toss, chose to bat.

Openers Jacob Tyson and Josh Chanter shared an opening stand of 51 before the latter was out for 27. Tyson then added 60 for the fourth wickets with Edward Smith (20) before he was out for 60 which came off 65 balls and included 10 fours.

Lower in the order Jack Hiett with 45 and Mark Hallas who remained unbeaten on 24 shared a ninth wicket partnership of 64 before Bishops Hull were all out for 235 in 38.2 overs.

Rob Spiers was the pick of the Minehead bowlers ending with 3 for 42, while there were two wickets each for Harry Pursey, Logan Harrison and Brian Penny.

The Minehead run-chase started badly when they lost a wicket without a run on the board after which despite a partial recovery thanks to opener Charlie Payne making 30 they slipped to 82 for 6.

However Matt Sully was then joined by Harry Pursey who together added 71 for the eighth wicket before Pursey went for 27. Sully eventually retired out on 65 which he scored off 71 deliveries with seven 4s as Minehead were all out for 189 in 37.4 overs giving Bishops Hull victory by 46 runs.

Minehead Under 15s notched up their seventh win of the season when they beat Chard away by 51 runs on Sunday.

Choosing to bat the visitors made 157 all out in their 20 overs, of which Logan Harrison made 52 off 27 balls with 7 fours and two 6s, Lewis Denton hit 23 and Harry Pursey 21.

Chard, in reply, were dismissed for 106 in 18.1 overs, Harry Milton claiming 3 for 4 and Ben Cobb 2 for 6.
