MINEHEAD Seconds and Thirds both rounded off their seasons on Saturday afternoon. The Seconds were in Somerset Cricket League Division Three action against Middlezoy away, while the already crowned champions of West Somerset Cricket League Division Three travelled to play against Wiveliscombe Seconds.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first Minehead Seconds were all out for 241 in 34.1 overs. At the top of the order opener Jonah Hopkins made 27 before he was out with the total on 57.

The visitors then slipped to 95 for 5 before a partnership between Harry Swann who made 47, his best of the season and skipper Gregg Howard, added 38 for the sixth wicket. Two further wickets tumbled before Archie Marsh, making his first appearance of the year, and Chris James came together and added 82 together before James was out for 37. Marsh remained unbeaten on 57 which he scored from 37 deliveries with 4 fours and 4 sixes, while for the hosts Nathan Barnard claimed 4 for 26 from 7.1 overs.

When Middlezoy replied Rob Spiers claimed one of the openers with the total on 7 which brought Ben Pomeroy to the wicket to join Barnard. The second wicket pair added 167 together before Howard accounted for Barnard for 79 which came off 72 balls with 15 fours, while Pomeroy remained out in the middle to see his side to 242 for 3 in 32.2 overs to end up 107 not out off 103 balls with 20 fours.

This result sees Minehead Seconds end up next to the bottom of the table in Division Three as a result of which they are likely to drop down a division next season.

Meanwhile Minehead Thirds made the short trip to play against Wiveliscombe Seconds where, after losing the toss, the visitors were invited to bat first. The Minehead innings was dominated by Eldhose Baby who carried his bat for an unbeaten 112 which he scored off 127 balls and which included 18 fours and one 6.

During the course of his innings Baby shared an opening stand of 66 with Gifto Varhese who made 18; he then added 35 for the fourth wicket with Harry Milton who made a season’s best 10 and 22 for the seventh with Oliver Bishop who hit 13 - his summer’s best as Minehead posted 209 for 8 from their 40 overs.

When Wiveliscombe replied Anil Kumar struck with the score on 7. Jack Warren hit 20 before he departed with the total on 32. Charlie Thorne, who top scored with 30, and Warren Heyns, who made 26, then added 34 for the for the fourth wicket before both fell. Richard Crocker and James Drake saw three figures onto the board and added 51 for the sixth wicket before the former was out for 20 followed 8 runs later by Drake for 24.

Wiveliscombe eventually ended their innings on 177 for 8 from 40 overs, giving Minehead Thirds victory by 32 runs,

For the visitors there were two wickets apiece for Sreejith Anilkumar, Renjeesh Krishnan , Oliver Bishop and Reuben Rajan.

This was Minehead Thirds’ 13th victory of the campaign during which they remained unbeaten and ended 115 points clear of their nearest rivals Carhampton. In addition to which they also lifted the WSCL Stuart Allbut Plate Trophy.
