KILVE will be looking to consolidate their position at the top of the first division in the West Somerset Cricket League when they play at home to struggling Brompton Ralph on Saturday, June 14.

Despite not playing last weekend because of the bad weather, Kilve go into the match with a 23-point lead over second-placed Bagborough, both sides having played the same number of games.

Kilve have won four of their opening games and have also been awarded maximum points for a cancelled fixture. Their game last weekend against Bridgetown was one of a number of matches called off because of the bad weather, meaning both teams were awarded 12 points.

Bagborough, whose match against champions Ashbrittle was also cancelled because of rain, play away to Bridgetown who are lying fifth. Third-placed Watchet, who trail the leaders by 35 points but have a game in hand, entertain Over Stowey who are lying in seventh spot. Watchet have yet to lose a game, having won three matches, been awarded the points for a cancelled fixture while last weekend’s game at East Huntspill was rained off.

The only other fixture in the top division involves Ashbrittle who play at home to Winsford who are on the bottom of the table, having yet to win a game. Ashbrittle, too, are so far unbeaten as they try to win the championship for the second successive year, having lost only two matches in the 2024 season and finishing 86 points clear of runners-up Bagborough.

Crowcombe, who have a 52-point lead at the top of the second division, have a tough away match against Stogumber who are lying third but have a match in hand on the leaders. Stogumber were involved in the only game played in the division last weekend, collecting 35 points after winning by five wickets against Stoke St Mary.

Lydeard St Lawrence, in second place, will be looking to get back into action when they play at home to Churchinford, who are in fifth place, while Stoke St Mary play away to fourth-placed Sampford Arundel.

Cutcombe, who have an 11 point lead at the top of Division Three, are home to Ashbrittle’s second string and much depends how strong a side the visitors can field. Hemyock, with a game in hand in second place, will be looking to maintain their good form when they play at home to fourth-placed Cannington. The only other fixture being played in this division is at Stoodleigh where the home side play Carhampton.

Roadwater, who are setting the pace at the top of Division Four, will be looking to maintain their position when they play at East Huntspill while second-placed Fitzhead face a trip to play Stoke St Mary.

Buckland St Mary & Bishopswood, who have lost only once this season and are third in the table, have a visit from Brompton Ralph.
