BRIDGETOWN and East Huntspill both collected the maximum 35 points in the first division of the West Somerset Cricket League on the opening day of the new season.

Bridgetown, who finished fifth last season, gained a seven-wicket home win over Morebath who batted first and made 100 all out with only three batters hitting double figures - Stephen Kellard (13), Carl Hooper (31) and Josh Thorne (12).

Chris Wookey (3-21) and Ben Weetch (3-18) were the main wicket-takers, while Tom Gliddon took 2-14.

Bridgdetown made 54 before they lost Dan Sizer (25) but follow opener Kenny Cross steered them to victory with a patient 30 not out. Ben Luxton hit a breezy 17 off 16 balls with four fours.

East Huntspill received a walkover from Winsford, leaving them joint early leaders of the top division.

Churchinford, who finished bottom of the first division, began life in Division Two with a convincing nine-wicket home success against Crowcombe.

Crowcombe batted first and struggled throughout with only late order batter Charlie Baker scoring runs, hitting 45 off only 44 balls. Hugh Harris was the next highest scorer with 15.

James Troy-Brown took 3-31 in eight overs while Chris Roberts snapped up 3-18 in nine overs. Lee Nessling and Tom Francombe both took two wickets.

Stogumber gained a 139-run away win over Roadwater who were bowled out for 94 when chasing the visitors’ score of 233-7.

Star of the match was Stogumber opener Peter Horton who hit 105 off almost as many balls with seven fours. Fellow opener Elias Hayes made 46.

Ross Cornish was Roadwater’s leading scorer wtih 24 while Zac Rexworthy took 3-28 and S Yaw 3-8.
