CUTCOMBE openers Mark Matravers and Mike Kidner put on a remarkable unbroken stand of 323 during their 176-run victory at Stoodleigh on Saturday.
They batted the entire 40 overs, going at more than eight runs per over.
Matravers finished 179 not out from 120 deliveries with 28 fours and five sixes, while Kidner’s 124 came off 122 balls with 19 fours and two sixes. Only James Herniman (0-43 off 9) kept the runs down.
Matravers then demonstrated his prowess with the ball, taking 5-45 from eight overs as the hosts were dismissed for just 147, that despite the top three of Andrew Torrance (40), Jack Waterman (35) and Herniman (29) all making starts. Harry Pusey bowled well for 3-30 from his eight overs.
Stoodleigh remain rooted to the bottom on 164 points, 51 adrift of third from last Ashbrittle Seconds who conceded their trip to Bishops Hull Seconds.
Carhampton did likewise when they were due to visit runaway leaders Hemyock.
One other game did take place, at Minehead where visiting Cannington ran out emphatic nine-wicket winners against the home side’s third team.
After electing to bat, Minehead mustered just 121 all out in 26.4 overs with only opener James Griffiths (28) and number 10 Ian Groves (22) reaching 20, while Althaf Navas made 16 from number six.
Second change bowler Stephen King took 4-27 from just four overs, that after opening bowlers Dave Hoveman (2-30) and Robert Coombes shared four wickets, the latter having the fine figures of 2-11 from his nine overs.
Cannington were home and hosed inside 22 overs.
Christian Cullum was 52 not out and was was joined by Adam Caswell, that after Huge Ogle departed close to the end for 50, caught by Ian Goodrum off Eldhose Baby (1-30 off 9).
