BUCKLAND St Mary and Bishopswood stay top of the fourth division in the West Somerset Cricket League after they beat Roadwater’s second string at home by four wickets.
Roadwater scored 120-7 in their 40 overs and Buckland knocked off the runs in 25 overs to keep ahead of Fitzhead in the bid to win the title.
Fitzhead were awarded 35 points after Brompton Ralph 2nd XI conceded their game - for the ninth time this season, leaving them with a points deficit of 40.
Wiveliscombe 2nd XI pulled off a 60-run home victory over Spaxton 2nd XI who won the toss and elected to field first. Wiveliscombe knocked 217-7 in their 40 overs with Josh Fyfe (40), Clive Thorne (30 not out), Warren Heyns (29) and Nathan Pincombe (28) all scoring runs. Kian Hayman took 2-47 and Scott Passmore 2-39.
Spaxton were never in the hunt after their first wicket fell at 25 and they were bowled out for 157 in 39.3 overs with Nathan Pincombe taking 3-39, Ian Pincombe 2-20 and R Stutt-Hannaford 2-13.
J Merrick scored 35 while Mike Eele made 27, coming in at number 11, and shared in a last-wicket stand of 31 with Merrick.
Meanwhile, Fitzhead will be looking to keep up the pressure at the top of the table when they play at home to Wiveliscombe 2nd XI on Saturday, July 12, while Buckland St Mary & Bishopswood will be hoping to stay ahead of their rivals with a win over Spaxton 2nd XI.
East Huntspill entertain Stoke St Mary while Roadwater 2nd XI are due to play Brompton Ralph 2nd XI, which almost certainly will not be played.
