ASHBRITTLE 2nd XI moved off the bottom of the third division in the West Somerset Cricket League after beating Minehead 3rd XI by 55 runs.
Ashbrittle, who had won only one of their previous matches, were put in by the seasiders and scored 261-5 in their 40 overs. Steven Priscott (65) and Peter Woodbury (41) shared in an opening stand of 93 while Chris Hill (67) and Rob Popplestone (30) piled on the runs for Ashbrittle. Connor Paterson took 2-46 while there was a wicket apiece for Ben Cobb, Logan Harrison and Aadi Adithyan.
In response, Minehead were bowled out for 206 in 36 overs with their leading run maker being Eldose Baby with 44, while Charles Cooper took 3-28, and there was a wicket for Ellie Popplestone and Rupert Gabriel.
Cannington won by seven wickets in their game against Stoodleigh who, batting first, were dismissed for 266 in 34.2 overs with Anthony Vigus top scoring with 49 while J Herniman scored 34 not out, Edward Mock 33 and L Morphet 32.
H Ogle was the star batter on show, hitting 114 not out as Cannington cruised to a comfortable victory. A Caswell was 30 not out and opener C Callum made 18.
It enabled Cannington to complete the season’s double over their opponents, having beaten their rivals by ten wickets on the opening day of the season.
Meanwhile, Hemyock opened up a 22-point lead at the top of the division after gaining a three-wicket home win over Bishops Hull, leaving the Taunton side 97 points behind the Devon outfit in third spot - although they have a match in hand.
Hemyock are away to Minehead 3rd XI in the league on Saturday, June 28, while Ashbrittle ‘s second string are also away - to Carhampton who are bottom of the table.
