SOMERSET all-rounder Alex Griffiths has signed a contract extension until at least the end of the 2028 season.
The 23-year-old from Swansea played 13 Metro Bank One Day Cup matches for Somerset last season, scoring 191 runs with a top score of 46. She also claimed nine wickets with a best of two for 20.
Her 14 Vitality Blast appearances saw her score 168 runs and take six wickets.
Alex said: “I’m really pleased to have extended my contract at Somerset, and hopefully we can carry on building as a team. It means a lot that the club have faith in me and are going to continue to support me in my role. Somerset is a great club and we’re trying to build something special here within the women’s set up to emulate the success of the men.
“Hopefully, the next couple of years will see us start lifting some silverware and hopefully I can play a part in that. Winning a trophy would be very nice. We’ve got a young team, and we’ve got a lot to learn but it’s a really, really exciting time.”
Somerset head coach Erin Osborne said: “Alex is a genuine all rounder who has the ability to change the momentum of a game. With the bat she is a powerful striker and she can bowl a heavy ball. Her passion for the game makes her a key member of our dressing room. I am looking forward to seeing how she continues to develop over the next few years.”
Somerset CCC Director of Talent & Women’s Performance Matt Drakeley added: “Alex is a genuine three-dimensional cricketer who adds value with bat, ball and in the field, and that all-round contribution is hugely important to the team we are building. We are really pleased to extend her contract and to seeing her continue to grow her game,”
