DESPITE the long and very hot summer, Watchet Bowling Club members have stayed cool under pressure - and their teams have even won trophies.

At the height of the heatwaves to date, some games have sensibly been postponed or indeed cancelled. However a fairly full programme continues.

Meanwhile, Watchet Bowling Club Ladies are having an absolutely fantastic season and have been in party mood.

At the beginning of August, they were delighted to have been crowned Evelyn Yandle League champions after a great season competing against Williton and Minehead. A huge well done went to every single lady who represented the club throughout the league – it was a real team effort, and everyone played their part.

To make it even more special, Watchet Ladies also then hosted the Ray Thorne Shield, a privilege afforded through winning the Evelyn Yandle, where they were thrilled to come away as winners once again! Ray Thorne Shield results: Watchet – 68 points , Williton – 60 points, Minehead – 57 points.

A thank you goes to Williton and Minehead for another enjoyable season of bowls played in great spirit, and congratulations went to all the Watchet ladies on a brilliant overall achievement.

On the 9th of August the club held their annual 2 Bowl Tournament. A good number of entries took part in lively knockout ladies and men’s competitions and the two winners emerged.

A particular well done went to Lynda Daley for winning the competition for the very first time And a hats off to Ryan Hooper for winning the tournament for five years in a row, equalling a club record set by his dad, Steve!

A massive thank you also went out to the markers, the bar staff, and president Ron Scott for organising a brilliant day.
