MINEHEAD Town Youth Under 14s narrowly lost 6-5 away to Chard on Sunday in the Lloyd and Whyte Sunday League.

Their early pressure saw Guy Burns swung a nice ball in for a firm shot by Chris Bishop which was only stopped by an outstretched boot.

A series of passes allowed Louis Allen to break through and open the scoring, while at the other end Dean Williams made several great saves before chard equalised.

Minehead regained the lead when an accurate corner from Gubb was headed home by Bishop, but Chard soon equalised, and although Allen and Harry Hesp both had long shots, it remained level at half-time.

As the second half opened Lewis Rich and Hesp linked to feed Martin Green who took a useful long shot, but then Chard gained the lead for the first time.

A free kick was met by Allen with an overhead kick to level the scores but chard struck back, being denied by Williams spreading himself wide to prevent a certain goal but scoring from their next strike.

A long corner by Rich was met by Bishop's head to make it 4-4, then Chard scored twice in quick succession to go 6-4 up.

Minehead were not ready to give in and Hesp, Rich and Andrew Gubb curled over the wall and found the net to make the final score 6-5.

l Minehead Youth Under 13s played at home to Westonzoyland on Sunday and won 10-1.

After ten minutes of end to end play, Dan Whiston put them ahead and they never looked back.

Five minutes later Dan Bevens made it 2-0, then Adam Langdon put a pass from Aron Jordan into the back of the net.

Tom Paskin nipped around the defence to put the ball into an open goal, Dan Bevens notched his second and two goals in quick succession from Ed Barney made it 7-0 at half-time.

Whiston opened the second half scoring with a solo effort before Minehead's keeper was called into action as Westonzoyland started a fightback.

However, Whiston's wide pass set up Langdon to make it 9-0 before the visitors' efforts were finally rewarded with a consolation goal.

Minehead had the last say when Sam Mathews made it 10-1.

l On Sunday Minehead Town Youth Under 12s crushed Avishayes from Chard 10-1 at home in the Lloyd and Whyte Sunday League.

l Watchet Under 12s went down 1-0 to Holway in their first game since the Christmas break and looked short of ideas on how to produce scoring opportunities.

Most of the team looked sluggish, and with a lack of commitment from some players the well-organised and disciplined Taunton side always looked in control.

Holway took the lead midway through the first half and then took control as Watchet's midfield looked weak and bunched together too often.

In a desperate search for an equaliser the Seasiders had one shot cleared off the line and a long-range shot just went over the bar, but their efforts were not enough and their hopes of retaining the league title may well have gone.

Watchet U12s: A Bishop, D Gamblin, J Foster, C Gibbons, J Miles, J Strong, A Rees, H Corthorn, J Smith, M Smith, A Deeks.

l Watchet Under 11s produced an excellent display away to Holway to win 7-0.

Midfielder Scott Langdon has been waiting all season for his first goal but in a devastating ten minute spell he scored a hat-trick of great quality to give the Seasiders a 3-0 half-time lead.

Early in the second half Holway should have reduced the deficit but Andrew Miles pulled off two fine saves.

When Watchet applied more pressure, Steve Minter scored two quick goals after some skilful work from David Greenslade.

Warren Knight made it 6-0 with a well-struck free-kick from just outside the penalty area into the roof of the net, and with two minutes remaining Langdon made it four for himself and seven for Watchet.

Watchet U11s: A Miles, W Johnson, R Strong, W Knight, M Jones, S Langdon, M Hutchinson, D Greenslade, N Davey, S Minter, D Bowden, B Hutchins.

l Minehead Town Youth Under 11s started the New Year with a 3-1 away defeat at Wellington on Saturday.

With only nine players it was always going to be a difficult match for them, and playing downhill in the first half, Wellington soon took advantage of their superiority in numbers to take an early lead.

Minehead, with only one forward, worked hard as a team and against all the odds equalised within five minutes when Ryan Lewis met a cross from William Lewis to head home.

Minehead had a number of further chances in the first half, including two penalty claims which were turned down by the referee.

Playing downhill in the second half, Minehead hoped to take advantage of the slope and capitalise on their good work in the first half.

But Wellington played much better than in the first half and as Minehead legs started to tire, the home side scored two goals to take a 3-1 lead.

In the last few minutes Minehead played themselves back into the game and were unlucky not to score when an overhead kick from Danny Wild clipped the top of the bar.

Man of the match for Minehead was Danny Wild.

Minehead Town U11s: J Furse, S Webber, J Gray, B Hall, P Hoyland, R Lewis, W Lewis, D Sherrin, D Wild.

l Porlock Juniors started their New Year campaign with a jittery 6-4 home victory against mid-table Bishops Lydeard on Saturday.

Playing slightly understrength, the Blues were always pretty well in control and took the lead after five minutes through Ben Flatley but the visitors, who played good passing football throughout, managed to equalise from an exquisite lob from 20 yards.

That forced Porlock to up the tempo and bravery in the Lydeard penalty area allowed Matthew Drakeley to head them in front again, and they consolidated their advantage when a customary solo run from Declan Jones resulted in him firing home.

The reds were not to be outdone an a somewhat speculative effort found its way in to the corner of the Porlock goal.

However, Jones again put Porlock minds at ease with another well-taken finish to leave the Blues 4-2 up at half-time.

The second half saw both teams trying to gain the upper hand, with Flatley, Buchanan, Lovegrove, and Vasser all working hard to keep the visitors at bay, and after 36 minutes Stephen Salter hit a wonderful strike from a narrow angle to put Porlock further in front.

Lydeard came back with another well-worked goal but shortly afterwards Oliver Dyer was on hand to shoot home after a desperate scramble in the reds' defence.

Porlock tried to increase their lead but were frustrated by a determined visiting team, and it was Lydeard who scored the final goal to give them some form of consolation.

Player of the day was Ben Flatley, although Chris Cubby ran him close.

Porlock Juniors: M Earle-Leitch, T Lovegrove, C Cubby, C Buchanan, C Waters, C Reaney, B Flatley, O Dyer, S Salter, M Drakeley, D Jones, sub A Vasser (used).
