Division One
Timberscombe v Stoodleigh
WITH 20 overs gone in their innings, Stoodleigh looked on target to beat Timberscombe, but Timberscombe's determination shone through and they eventually won by 25 runs.
Timberscombe elected to bat and were given a good start by Paul Sparks (21) and Luke Taylor (52) putting on 73 for the first wicket.
At 99-1 off 24 overs there was a mini collapse as four wickets fell in four overs but Keith Graddon held the rest of the innings together with Trevor Howard and finally Gary Thorpe.
D Drew bowled tightly for the visitors without taking a wicket while E Mock and Shaun Andrews had three wickets each.
the final total of 179-7 was rather disappointing when over 200 seemed likely after the opening partnership.
In reply, Stoodleigh got off to a flying start by openers J Cridland (33) and Gary Roe (56), putting on 91 runs in the first 20 overs.
Cridland was then out first ball after the drinks break and from this point wickets continued to fall with only Andy Stamp (13) managing to get into double figures and they were dismissed for 154.
Dominic Westcott (3-24) started the collapse with some hostile bowling followed by Nick Virgin claiming three wickets when he was introduced into the attack.
Timberscombe's fielding was once again good, none more so than Luke Taylor who held four of the seven catches taken.
Timberscombe: 179-7 (L Taylor 52, K Graddon 28, G Thorpe 16 no, S Andrews 3-47).
Stoodleigh: 154 (G Roe 56, D Westcott 3-24, N Virgin 3-38).
Points: Timberscombe 26 Stoodleigh 8.
Buckland St Mary v Roadwater
ROADWATER remembered how to win with an emphatic 120 run victory at Buckland St Mary last weekend.
They were indebted to an opening partnership of 116 with Tim Harral first out for a hard hitting 64 but Ben Bowman then continued until the 33rd over with a fine controlled innings of 70.
Good support was given by Clayton Vellacott and Mark Aspey with the latter joined late on by brother Simon, who bludgeoned 32 from only 10 balls to leave a daunting 246 for a home victory.
Buckland's innings hardly got off the ground as nearly all the batsmen had problems with the bowling of Bowman, Simon Aspey and Toby Brewer.
Only K Reed and Richard Maddocks managed to cope for any length of time with Maddocks top scoring on 39 no.
For Roadwater, it was pleasing that on his league bowling debut 15-year-old Kieren Roberts claimed the final two wickets to fall.
Roadwater: 245-5 (B Bowman 70, T Harral 64, S Aspey 32 no, M Aspey 27 no, C Vellacott 24).
Buckland St Mary: 125 (R Maddocks 39 no, K Reed 27, B Bowman 3-18, T Brewer 3-34, K Roberts 2-12, S Aspey 2-45).
Points: Buckland St Mary 5 Roadwater 26.
Over Stowey v Crowcombe
THIS local derby on Saturday was more vital than usual with both sides in the bottom three of the division and after an interesting and tight game the home side, Over Stowey, beat Crowcombe by two wickets.
Crowcombe were invited to bat by Stowey's skipper Phil Rich and the decision was immediately proved correct as Crowcombe slumped to 48-5.
With Steve Easden (4-31) and Rich (3-36) on top with the ball runs were hard to come by until C Lewis (56) and C Lock put on a 46 run partnership and changed the shape of the game.
Easden returned to the attack and claimed both wickets and eventually the visitors closed on 153-9 with Rich claiming three catches as well as his wickets.
Stowey lost a wicket with the third ball of their innings but then Mark Sortwell and Steve Darch put on a 46 run partnership to give Stowey the edge.
Both were dismissed in the 18th over but then Rich came in and took control of the innings, having a 57 run partnership with the experienced Simon Pickard and a 34 run partnership with the runless Dale Shepherd to guide his side to a much needed two wicket victory, their fourth win on the trot.
Crowcombe: 153-9 C Lewis 56, C Lock 21, S Bailey 17, S Easden 4-31, P Rich 3-36).
Over Stowey: 155-8 (P Rich 66 no, M Sortwell 21, S Darch 21, S Pickard 21).

Huish Champflower
v Stogumber
STOGUMBER travelled to Huish Champflower on July 13 with several regulars missing from their line-up and suffered the consequences, losing by eight wickets.
Stogumber had a reasonable start, reaching 65-1 with Simon Penny hitting 37, but things went drastically down-hill from then on, due mainly to the bowling of J Escott who finished with 6-32, and the visitors were all out for 110 in the 39th over.
Huish were never in any trouble with Bill Buckingham taking his usual likeness to the Stogumber attack and finishing undefeated with 86.
Huish reached the required target in the 25th over with the loss of two wickets, both claimed by Tim Auton.
Stogumber: 110 (S Penny 37, N Lane 18, J Escott 6-32, D Pursey 3-42).
Huish Champflower: 114-2 (D Buckingham 86 no, M Kidner 16, T Auton 2-30).

Stogumber v Trull
PLAYING at home against bottom of the table Trull on Saturday , Stogumber got back to winning ways in a high scoring game by 74 runs.
Stogumber batted first on a typical Stogumber track and outfield but made a bad start, losing their first wicket in the second over.
Stuart Thorne (36) and Jimmy Rexworthy then put on 48 in quick time to settle things down, which was followed by a partnership of 92 between the hard hitting Rexworthy and Cliff Matravers before Rexworthy (68) left to watch Neighbours.
There was no respite for the Trull bowlers because Neil Lane (61) came in and he and Matravers had an undefeated 148 partnership with Matravers finishing on 92 no and a final total of 292-3.
Chasing such a large total was never going to be easy and although Trull scored runs they were never coming quick enough.
D Coombes (73), J Davey and A Leslie had useful knocks and had the score standing at 141-1 at one stage but had used nearly 30 overs getting them.
Stephen Hayes was putting in his usual spell of good length and line and received reward for this by finishing with 4-51 off his 12 overs and with Simon Penny's spin bowling picking up three wickets Stogumber were always in control.
N Grub and E Hawkins had useful little knocks but at the end of their 40 overs Trull finished on 218-7, well short of the required target.
Stogumber: 292-3 (C Matravers 92no, J Rexworthy 68, N Lane 61 no, S Thorne 36).

Division Two
Crusaders v Bridgetown
IN this top of the table clash Bridgetown outplayed the Crusaders to go top of Division 2.
Bridgetown batted first and most found the going difficult. Only Paul Matravers (55) and Miles Richard (40) coped and without their knocks the visitors would not have reached 165-7 at the close of their innings, a score which appeared quite gettable.
But Bridgetown's Tom Gliddon had other ideas and the Crusader batsmen found him almost impossible to deal with to the extent that off his eight overs the home side only scored nine runs and lost seven wickets.
Mike Sherring backed him up well and Crusaders were all out for 21, a deficit of 144, with the top scorer reaching eight.
Bridgetown: 165-7 (P Matravers 55, M Richards 40, M Gamblin 4-41).

Holford managed to take a couple of wickets but with Matravers in form he pushed Winsford's total to 190-2 from their 40 overs.
His personal highest score of 138 no included 15 fours and six sixes as he scored to all parts of the field.
In reply Holford struggled against some excellent bowling from C Loosemore and D Phippen who reduced them to 32-4 from only 10 overs.
D Buller came in to steady things and finished undefeated on 38 as Holford shut up shop and finished on 101-6.

Morebath openers found little trouble early on and put on 101 in the first 22 overs. Kelland scored 51 and Andy Foxford, making the most of a rare opportunity to open, 50.
Hyde and then Blake continued the good run rate with Kingdon and Blake putting on 51 for the forth wicket the last six overs saw an increase in tempo with Kingdon and Mark Trump putting on 52 which lifted the final score to 237-4.
Bagborough also had a good opening partnership, P Redford (66) and Hooper putting on 49 in 11 overs and at 79-2 after 17 overs were well placed.
But the introduction of King, who took three wickets in his first over, turned the tide in Morebath's way and when keeper Trump threw down the stumps to run out the useful Redford Trump, to go with his five catches, things were looking good for the home side.
Bagborough were finally all out in the 35th over for 173 with King finishing with 4-31.
Morebath: 234-7 (Kelland 51, A Foxford 50).

Dulverton's fine fielding was emphasised by the good catching and three run outs.
