BARBECUES have been banned across Exmoor and the Quantock Hills in the current hot weather with visitors encouraged instead to take a picnic.

A Quantock Hills National Landscape spokesperson said: “With temperatures rising, the risk of wildfires is currently very high.

“Please help us to protect our beautiful landscape and the wildlife that call the Quantock Hills their home.

“Wildfires can have devastating impacts on livestock, wildlife, and natural habitats.

“A few small actions can make a big difference.”

They said barbecues and open fires should never be lit, cigarettes and vapes should be disposed of safely, glass should be kept out of direct sunlight, and all litter should be taken home.

The spokesperson said anybody who saw a fire should immediately call 999 and give the exact location.
