My wife has recently spent six weeks at an excellent West Somerset Nursing Home. The care she received was of the highest order.
Many of the staff there who showed her such kindness are from Eastern Europe.
I notice that the Conservatives propose that, while nurses should receive favourable immigration treatment after Brexit, this does not apply to carers.
The latter are not highly paid and it made me wonder how these jobs will be filled in the future. With the population predictions for West Somerset showing an ever-increasing proportion of over 65s, these people are needed more than ever.
Perhaps Mr Liddell-Grainger and Ms Pow would deign to explain where both these extra carers and the ones needed to replace those who feel ever less welcome by the Conservative Party in Government will be found.
Whatever dubious virtues Brexit may have, the crisis in this area is of an increasing elderly population and the Conservative Party seems hell bent on making the situation for them even worse.
