A TEN-year-old boy is nearing the end of a 100 day fundraising challenge, having raised more than £2,000 for an environmental charity.
Theo Roberts, from Wiveliscombe, has committed to carrying out a litter pick everyday for 100 days in aid of Surfers Against Sewage.
Cornish charity, Surfers Against Sewage work with communities and campaign to protect oceans, beaches and marine life.
His route has taken him through Wiveliscombe, Wellington and Taunton, tackling pollution one litter pick at a time in streets, parks and public spaces.
Molly Roberts, Theo’s mother, said: “Theo has been out in all weathers for nearly three months now, and he’s remained incredibly committed.
“We’re so proud of him, and we know how much it lifts his spirits when people show their support. These final days are tough, and any extra encouragement will mean the world to him.”
Theo has removed 265kg of litter from the Somerset streets and raised over £2,000 in donations.
The Wiveliscombe Primary School pupil originally set himself a £500 target but quickly reached £345 within his first week.
He hopes that through this challenge, adults and children alike will be inspired to take simple, positive action for the environment.
MP for Taunton and Wellington Gideon Amos has said he will join Theo on day 99 of the challenge to celebrate his achievements before Theo finishes on Sunday, December 15.
To support his mission, a ‘Super Family Litter Pick’ has been organised at French Wier Park, Taunton, on the morning of Saturday, December 14.
Families, volunteers and supporters are invited to join Theo for a community clean-up event aimed at raising further awareness and funds.
