metal artist Belle Cole, 33, of Cowbridge Sawmill, Timberscombe, who welds everything from motorbikes to flowers and environmental art sculptures, will make her television debut on Tuesday (January 18) in a programme featuring people involved in the world of scrap metal.
’Scrap Kings’ will be aired at 9pm on Quest, Freeview channel 12/Freesat channel 167. It is already available on the Discovery+ channel, via subscription.
Belle and her son Jonty, five, will appear in an episode about her artwork and a sculpture she made for Devon Sculpture Park.
Nature, flowers and the Exmoor environment are Belle’s inspiration. She became a welder after discovering a passion for stainless steel, did an engineering diploma at Bridgwater College, and set up her own business as a metal artist and sculptor in 2018.

Exmoor volunteers helping to finish garden project started two centuries agoThe first part of the television episode was filmed at Belle’s workshop, an old forge in a renovated 14th Century flour mill, where she had just finished a project on metal poppies. It shows her describing what she does, and finishing off the motorbike she was working on.
The film crew then followed her down to Devon Sculpture Park, where the motorbike was unveiled. It and some of her metal poppies are part of an exhibition there called Relics of a Fossil Fuelled Past.
"My son Jonty is also in the programme, explaining about the bike, and it’s a really lovely moment for me," said Belle.
"With only three weeks to work on the bike part-time before filming began, everything became very pressurised.
"Everyone was lovely and supportive and I was able to do what was needed," she said. "It’s been a really interesting experience. It’s funny to see yourself on the screen, I was mortified at first, but I enjoyed it."
