VILLAGERS in West Somerset have celebrated the reopening of their only public house for the second time in less than two years.
A complimentary hospitality and music evening was held for locals on Friday (January 16) in the White Horse Inn, Stogumber.
The grade two listed pub in the village centre is now run by husband and wife team Dan and Jodie Pierson, who have taken over from Lisa French and Tim King.
Mr Pierson said: “We were truly humbled and overwhelmed by the warm welcome Stogumber gave us and by those who know us from old and came to show their support.
“As proud new custodians of this beloved historic pub, we are honoured to carry forward its legacy and hope to continue the great work that Tim and Lisa have achieved over the last couple of years.
“Our goal is simple, to serve up fantastic beer, delicious food, and create a space that feels comfortable and welcoming.
“We cannot wait to welcome you, get to know the community, and make lasting memories together.
Mr Pierson apologised there was no food available over the weekend but promised to ‘fire up the kitchen again’ from Thursday (January 22).
The opening night music was provided by locally-based contemporary folk music duo, vocalist Stephanie Jayne and Ian Roberts playing guitar and bazouki, aka St Fian.
Ms French and Mr King took over and reopened the 18th century inn 20 months ago in May, 2024, after a short closure for refurbishment work.
The departing couple, whose last night was New Year’s Eve, said they were ‘absolutely blown away by the love we received’.
In a social media post they said: “Stogumber really showed what a special place it is, thank you to everybody that came along and for the support and encouragement during our time at the White Horse.”
