TEMPERATURES approaching those of the Sahara Desert did not deter near-record crowds from enjoying a packed programme of entertainment and family fun at the annual Williton Fete on the village recreation ground on Saturday (July 4).

A popular attraction was a performance by the Washford-based South Coast Waves cheerleading team.

Organisations running fund-raising stalls included Williton Hospital League of Friends and St Peter’s Church and a wide range of amusements featured ‘welly wanging’, archery, and jumping through hoops

There were also produce and craft shows and First Aid demonstrations by the Doniford Army Cadets platoon.

The produce show champion was Les Dixon, with Sue Westbury as runner-up, and the fete’s fun dog show was won by Kiarra, a Staffy/Bordeux/mastiff mix, owned by Sharon Holland.
