School's 150 years at heart of the community

Cutcombe School invited pupils, families, former pupils, staff, governors and members of the community to celebrate its 150th anniversary.

The afternoon included a commemorative service, musical performances, country dancing by current pupils, speeches from invited guests and the opportunity for visitors to view displays of photographs and memorabilia from across the school's history.

Head of School, Alison Blackmore, welcomed guests and reflected on the school's long-standing contribution to village life.

"Cutcombe Church School opened here, in the heart of the village, 150 years ago and has been at the centre of the Cutcombe community ever since. Over the years, generations of children have come through its doors to learn, play, grow and make friends."

The celebration also recognised the contribution of Richard Ellsworth, whose vision for education helped make schools in Cutcombe and Timberscombe.

Guests were welcomed by Bishop Fiona, who delivered an address, with a contribution from Angela Edwards, the school's longest-serving member of staff.
