TWO families have shared their heartbreak after the death of a West Somerset husband and wife in a crash on the A358 last month.

Minehead couple David and Karen Cozens, aged 52 and 60, respectively, died at the scene near Combe Florey after their camper van was in collision with a lorry.

The family of Mrs Cozens in a statement issued through Avon and Somerset Police expressed their ‘heartbreak and shock’ following the death of their mother and step-father.

They said: “They were both loved by their family and by everybody around them.

“They loved going on camping trips, watching banger racing, and walking their dogs.

“We will miss them so much, and we only wish they had more time to watch their grandchildren growing up.

“Mum was an incredible woman who had a heart of gold and was a friend to many.

“She was the light in our family and the pain of losing her cannot be described.

“We want to thank all the emergency services, air ambulance, and especially the three members of the public who tried to help our mum and step-dad in the moments after the collision.

“It will not be forgotten.”

In a separate tribute, Mr Cozens’ son Matthew Trebble said: “Dad always put his family first and was always there for us when we needed him.

“He was the patriarch of our family and always so proud of his children and grandchildren.

“He was the jolliest of blokes and always loved to have a laugh with everybody.

“He was the man who always had a smile to brighten everybody’s day, and the memories I shared with him will live on in my heart always.

“The days are becoming shorter but the pain of missing you is only getting harder.

“I know you are at peace and reunited with your mum and dad.

“It is not goodbye, it is until we meet again, I will always love and miss you dearly.

“Dad, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.

“You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”

Both families continue to be supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.

Any witnesses to the crash who have not yet spoken to the police and those with information surrounding the incident are asked to contact police and give the reference 5226279615, or complete the force’s online appeals form.
