FIREFIGHTERS from Porlock helped tackle a camper van which caught alight on Exmoor on Sunday (June 22).

They joined a crew from Lynton sent to the blaze in Coscombe car park, which happened just after 7 pm.

The crews found the vehicle ‘well alight’ when they arrived and the occupants were safe.

They removed two gas cylinders before they could set to work putting out the flames.

The camper van was completely destroyed and a 520 sq ft patch of tarmac was also damaged by the fire.

Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet, and checked for hotspots with a thermal imaging camera.

A small amount of oil was cleaned up using an environmental pack.

The cause was deemed accidental.
