The Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Annie Maw was completing the final leg of her costal wheelchair marathon today (Saturday 23rd July) across Exmoor.

She completed her Minehead leg of an ambitious 70-mile wheelchair marathon on the 9th July. She is doing the journey from Clevedon to Exmoor to celebrate seven decades of the Queen’s reign.

For the Minehead lef Annie joined Doniford and Minehead Army cadets and members of Foxes Academy to embark on day 6, a 10 mile walk starting from the Tank Flats up on North Hill and finishing for tea and cake, provided by Foxes Academy.

Before and after the event, Annie awarded Army Cadets from Doniford Detachment their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Annie said: “My ambition is to celebrate the Queen’s 70 glorious years as our monarch and to dedicate this as a Somerset tribute to her on her Platinum Jubilee.

“I am very excited to be doing this with young people, and it seems right that they should be those participating in the scheme which was so close to the heart of Her Majesty’ dear late husband.”
