Hundreds of homes were left without power after a power cut in West Somerset in the early hours of Friday.

At one stage more than 800 homes in the Minehead area were reported to be affected.

Power supplier National Grid confirmed there was a problem in the early hours.

A member of National Grid staff said on the social media platform Twitter: "Apologies for the #powercut in #Minehead #TA24 & surrounding areas.

"Our engineers are working on the issue and aim to restore all supplies by 05:30."

Homes in Minehead were due to be reconnected by 10am.

A separate incident was reported in the Blue Anchor area at around 8am, with an estimated reconnection time of 11.30am.
