COASTGUARD officers and three fire crews were called out on Sunday (August 23) when a dog became trapped about 100 feet down a cliff face near Kilve Beach.

Although the dog was not hurt, it had become stuck on a cliff ledge shortly before 6 pm.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue (DSFR) initially mobilised firefighters from Nether Stowey and Taunton, who attended along with a Coastguard team.

Because of the danger involved in the incident, DSFR also sent a specialist technical rescue team from the Bridgwater station.

The dog was eventually brought to the top using a safety line system and rescue bag and was reunited uninjured with its worried owner.

A DSFR spokesperson said the rescue operation took about two hours to complete.
