A PRIZE is bring offered for the scariest item found washed ashore in Minehead on Saturday (October 31), which is All Hallows’ Eve, or Halloween.
The scariest piece of litter or debris will be judged during a clean-up of the town’s beach which is being organised by Plastic Free Communities in West Somerset.
Dozens of volunteers will be taking part in the litter pick and looking for creepy creations which the tide may have washed ashore.
They will meet outside Channel Events, inWarren Road, at 10.30 am and the clean-up will last until 12 noon.
It is part of the Surfers Against Sewage Million Mile Clean campaign and, because of the date, is being billed as the Halloween Million Mile Scream.

A spokesperson said: “We will be cleaning Minehead beach and surrounding sea front areas, helping to protect our beautiful coastline from litter and plastic pollution that threatens our marine environment.
“We will provide litter pickers and collecting sacks.“Just dress appropriately for the weather and come ready to make a difference.
“We will sort and record everything we collect, ensuring as much as possible is recycled.
“Bring your friends and family, enjoy some fresh sea air, and help us to make a difference to our wonderful coastline.”
The clean-up is being supported by Channel Events and Minehead and Coast Development Trust.
Other volunteers recently joined Plastic Free Communities in West Somerset for an afternoon of clearing and repacking plastic tree guards in Timberscombe.
The tree guards will be taken to Exmoor National Park Authority’s field services depot, in Exford, from where they will be collected by their manufacturer, TUBEX, and taken away for recycling, giving them a new lease of life rather than allowing them to become plastic pollution in the Exmoor countryside.
The tree guard collection was supported by the Exmoor Society and the national park authority.
