I am shocked, stunned and raging mad to have received a text message, while on holiday in Lanzarote, from Barclays bank telling me my branch in Minehead is closing in June.

With an ageing population in the area, many of whom are not computer-savvy, and others who don’t trust internet banking and want good old-fashioned personal service, this is a huge blow.

Sadly, I fear the banks have brought this on themselves as on many occasions I have been told by Barclays staff “You could have done this on-line you know?”

And I always replied “Yes, and put you out of a job”.

I am sorry my prophecy has come true.
