FIREFIGHTERS were called to Simonsbath on Monday afternoon (October 7) when a gritting lorry caught alight.

Lynton and South Molton crews were despatched and a water bowser was mobilised from Barnstaple but quickly stood stood down.

They discovered a small fire in the lorry’s diesel filter and used a hose reel jet and small tools to put it out and prevent escalation.
