Men’s, ladies, and mixed entries made up a total of 30 fancy dress teams for the annual wheelbarrow race, where competitors have to complete the ‘Circuit De Watchet’ with ‘pit stops’ for ‘refuelling’ at several public houses and clubs.

This year’s ‘pit stop’ hosts were the Esplanade Club, Bell Inn, London Inn, Star Inn Watchet Royal British Legion Club, Pebbles Tavern, and the West Somerset Hotel.

Crowds lined the Esplanade, where there was a running grid start and which also saw the chequered flag as competitors finished.

One spectator summed up the atmosphere: “The town was buzzing.”
