BRITISH director Jonathan Glazer’s Oscar-winning film The Zone of Interest (Cert 12A) will be screened at the Regal Theatre on Tuesday (April 2) at 7.30 pm.

Based on the novel by Martin Amis, the film is an unforgettable masterpiece about the family life of Auschwitz’s commandant during the Second World War.

It focuses on the daily detail of the lives of the upwardly mobile Nazi couple Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig and their five children in their idyllic villa in the countryside outside the walls of Auschwitz and, without ever crossing the walls, powerfully evokes the horror within the camp.

The Zone of Interest features outstanding performances from Christian Friedel as Höss and Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall) as Hedwig.

In a recent interview, Glazer told The Guardian newspaper: “For me, this is not a film about the past. It’s trying to be about now, and about us and our similarity to the perpetrators, not our similarity to the victims.”

Tickets cost £5 (Friends of the Regal £4.50; Regal Film Society members, Students/ES40s £3) and may be booked in advance online and the Regal box office (Tel 01643 706430) between 9.30 am and 12 pm Monday to Saturday.
