A SHOWING of ‘Ocean’, with Sir David Attenborough, at the Minehead Regal on Thursday, September 25, will give audiences a chance to experience the visually stunning film on the big screen.
The film takes viewers on a breathtaking journey to prove there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder or surprise, than the ocean.
In his hundredth year, the celebrated broadcaster and filmmaker Sir David reveals how his lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery.
Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests, and the open ocean, Sir David explains just why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing.
Stunning and immersive cinematography showcases the wonder of life under the seas and exposes the realities and challenges facing our ocean as never-before-seen.
Spectacular sequences reveal the devastating impact of human activity, such as destructive fishing practices.
Sir David reveals in his commentary that the state of the oceans almost made him lose hope for the future of life on the planet.
He says that what has kept him from despair is what he calls ‘the most remarkable discovery of all’ – that the seas can recover ‘faster than we ever imagined’.
But, Sir David warns his audience: “If there is to be a recovery, we are almost out of time to do the job.”
The film will be introduced by Keith Hunt, of Minehead eco shop Our Precious Earth, who is sponsoring the screening, and Peter Hoyland, of Plastic Free Exmoor, and will be followed by a question and answer session.
Tickets for the 7.30 pm screening cost £6 (£4 Regal Film Society members, students/ES40s) and can be booked in advance online and at the Regal box office (tel 01643 706430) between 9.30 am and 12 pm.
