SEVERAL lifeboats are likely to be seen in Minehead Harbour next week as the town’s boathouse marks its annual Lifeboat Day.

Volunteer crew and the fund-raising team in Minehead’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) station are inviting the public to spend time visiting them on Saturday, July 5, between 10 am and 4 pm.

Visitors to Minehead’s historic harbour will be able to enjoy a day of entertainment from the team, including a range of fun activities and games with prizes for children, a bumper prize draw with an opportunity to win meals out, an RNLI hamper, and other treats, and a bottle tombola.

Members of the station’s water safety team will be offering a free lifejacket clinic between 11 am and 1 pm for people to go along and make sure theirs is rescue ready.

People can also talk to the team and raise any burning questions about safety around all sorts of other water based activities.

They can also browse Minehead Lifeboat Shop's new sale range and enjoy a hot drink and some cake.

The Minehead boathouse’s popular shanty singers DZ Buoys will be performing at 12.30 pm, while from 2 pm there will be a lifeboat display in the harbour.

The Minehead crew are hoping some visiting lifeboats from the RNLI’s nearby ‘flank stations’ will be able to take part.

A spokesperson said: “All in all, this is set to be a fabulous family day out, and a chance to meet Minehead’s lifesaving crew and see the kit up close.”

The Minehead station has two lifeboats, a rigid inflatable B class Atlantic 85 named the ‘Penny J II’ in memory of the late wife of donor Charles Henry Jones, and an inflatable D class named ‘Exmoor Belle’ used for operations closer to shore.
