HOSTED by Wiveliscombe Civic and Historical Society, local historian Adrian Webb will be unpicking the secret history of Churchill’s secret chart makers at an upcoming talk.
The secret chart making activities, particularly during WWII, of the Admiralty's Hydrographic Department based in Taunton and Bath, had not been told until Adrian's book of titled Churchill’s Secret Chart Makers was published recently.
During the War over 30 million charts were supplied to around 5000 vessels from 14 allied countries.
The Department's charts and other navigational products for D-Day were produced in absolute secrecy and contributed much to the success of the allied landings in June 1944.
Adrian’s talk will take place at St Andrew’s Church, Wiveliscombe, at 7.30pm on Thursday, June 19.
