WEST Somerset is starting the New Year with the ‘small screen’ showcasing the area and supporting its economy.
The streaming service Netflix will next week release Agatha Christie’s ‘Seven Dials’, starring Mia McKenna-Bruce, Helena Bonham Carter, and Martin Freeman.
The lavish three-part adaptation features key scenes shot on the West Somerset Railway in Blue Anchor and Minehead.
The production was helped by Screen Somerset, Somerset Council’s film office, which supports, encourages, and celebrates filming in the county in recognition of the economic benefits it can bring.
Film and television production brought an estimated £4.2 million to the Somerset economy last year, supporting employment and raising the county’s profile.
Somerset executive Cllr Mike Rigby said: “Film and television production is great for the county’s economy, local businesses, and the visitor economy, which is why we are working to make Somerset as film-friendly as possible.
“Having major productions with national and international reach hitting screens in January is a great way to start 2026.”
‘Seven Dials’ will be available to stream on Netflix from Thursday, January 15.
It filmed in the Bottle Yard Studios and locations around Bristol and the South West, including the West Somerset Railway.
Last year, West Somerset and Exmoor featured heavily on cinema screens through ‘The Salt Path’, much of which was filmed on locations along the South West Coast Path, including Minehead, Porlock Weir, Culbone, and the Valley of Rocks.
A Swedish psychological thriller ‘Unmoored’ was largely shot on Exmoor, using locations in the Barle Valley, Simonsbath, the Exmoor Forest Inn, Exford, and in Minehead and Wiveliscombe.
It was based on the novel ‘The Living and Dead in Winsford’, which was written by award-winning Swedish crime author Hakan Nesser while he spent several months living in Exmoor National Park.
