AN ancient British legend will be retold in the Walled Gardens of Cannington as the Cambridge Touring Theatre takes its lively outdoor production of ‘The Sword in the Stone’ on tour.

Based on the age-old stories of King Arthur and his wise teacher Merlin, this family version includes songs, dances, and interactive fun presented by a cast bursting with energy and enthusiasm.

Cambridge Touring Productions has been touring professionally all over Britain since 2000.

Every performance features six actors, a musician, and a colourful stage which turns magically into medieval caravans, carts, and courts.

The performers are all trained actors with experience in family events and they play with the original story and bring it to life for children of today.

They sing, dance, steal sandwiches, and even spray the audience with water.

The Cannington performance of ‘The Sword In The Stone’ takes place on Wednesday, August 19.

The story begins as Merlin searches for a new pupil and chooses a local boy named Wart and they set off for the tournament in London.

On the way, Wart learns important lessons about how to be just and wise.

When they arrive, the biggest competition at the tournament is the sword in the stone pulling contest...

For children who want to becme even more involved, the company offers 45-minute drama workshops before most performances.

The workshops allow children aged five to 10 years to explore the story of ‘The Sword in the Stone’, take part in their own knightly adventures, and meet some of the characters from the play.

Ticketsource tickets for the show have been reduced by 15 per cent following the Government’s decision to cut VAT on all children’s theatre.

Previous Cambridge Touring Productions have included classics such as the ‘Wind in the Willows’, ‘Alice In Wonderland’ and ‘Robin Hood’, as well as accessible Shakespeare.
