THE regional final of the Rotary Club’s prestigious Youth Speaks competition has been won by a team of pupils from Minehead Middle School.
Qualifying for the national final in Preston on May 7, Jack Lintern, Freya Jenkinson and Sophie Wood will compete against teams representing the whole of the UK and Northern Ireland.
On Saturday (March 19), they beat teams from across the whole of the South West when they spoke on the topic ‘It’s the Taking Part that Counts’.
They impressed the judges who commended them for their performance in the intermediate category, in what was a tough competition.
English teacher Nicola Gibbs, who coached the team, said ‘We are overjoyed with this result, which was thoroughly deserved.
“These children are a shining example of how hard work, good character and sheer determination can bring great rewards. We are exceptionally proud of them.”
