I was horrified to learn about the proposal to close the park and ride at Silk Mills in Taunton.
This lovely building and facilities have only been there for a few years – what a total waste of money that would be.
Apart from the financial aspect of this proposal, I want to express my total dismay at these plans.
I went there to chat with bus users to judge their reaction and was very surprised that none of the people I spoke to even knew this was on the cards.

New boundaries and 14 fewer councillors to be elected for Somerset Council next yearThere must have been around 800 cars in the car park, and this is in holiday period. Where will these all park – in the town’s other car parks so visitors won’t find a space?
And how about the hospital? Many people were using the bus to get to Musgrove because they found parking very difficult if not impossible at the hospital, so how will they get to their appointments and visits (including myself who has used it many times this year)?
Everyone without exception said they would be please to pay, for example £3, for the shopper ticket to keep the service running as this would still be far cheaper than a car park in town.
The congestion in the town will increase, and many people will find getting to work not only harder but more expensive if they have to park in town.
If other readers feel incensed as I do, they could either sign a petition organised by Cllr John Hunt or lobby the council directly because I really feel that to lose this facility will be another step towards Taunton dying.
These days many towns are closing down due to competition from Internet shopping, so we need to give the town a chance, not put another nail in its coffin.
