CAR boot enthusiasts and second hand shop owners are being asked to keep an eye out for a violin stolen from the Milverton area. Police have launched an appeal to find the instrument, which is said to have great sentimental value. A spokesman for the Avon and Somerset force said the violin had black pegs, with strings that were ball-ended rather than loop-ended. It also had fine tuners near the bridge. A healed but visible crack runs in a straight line from the right of the bridge to the base of the violin. The instrument was wrapped in a red patterned silk scarf in a black violin case, while the bow was made of horse rather than synthetic hair. A man was arrested and charged in connection with the theft of the violin in June but police are calling on the public to be vigilant in case it turns up for sale locally. "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or been offered a violin similar to this," said the spokesman. Anyone with information should contact the Taunton District Targeting Team on the police non-emergency number 101, quoting crime number 58544.
