AN appeal for help from the public has been made by police hunting a serial arsonist who has struck at least 19 times on Exmoor in the past 13 months.

The most recent incident was on April 16 when four fires were started on heathland at Anstey Gate, between Molland and Dulverton.

Other fires have been started on commons near West Anstey and Molland, including two on Christmas Day.

A Devon and Cornwall Constabulary spokesperson said: “We are aware of several incidents of suspected arson on heathland on Exmoor over recent months.

“We have been carrying out numerous inquiries into these incidents, which we believe could possibly be linked.

“Following the reports, officers have been carrying out extra patrols in the area.
