AN early morning serious road crash saw the closure of the A358 between Williton and Bishops Lydeard on Wednesday (September 30).

Emergency services were at the scene close to West Bagborough, near Trebles Holford, and shut the road from New Road to the Farmer’s Arms.

An air ambulance was called due to the serious nature of the incident, which was believed to have involved a lorry and a car.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue sent two fire engines and a specialist rescue vehicle to assist with the operation.

Avon and Somerset Police advised motorists to look for alternative routes if travelling into or out of West Somerset.

Minor roads in the area quickly became choked with traffic.

The A358 was expected to remain closed for several hours, and First Bus said its buses would terminate at Bishops Lydeard in one direction and Williton in the other.

No information was available about the vehicles involved or any casualties.
