SUNDAY saw Watchet Coastguard team called out just after midday to help people believed to be stuck in the mud at Blue Anchor.

Two sit-on kayakers were sighted in the mud towards the low tide line, but on investigation they were found to be safe and waiting for the returning tide to refloat them.

“Coastguards would like to remind those visiting Blue Anchor to take notice of the warning signs and not to try to walk out to the low tide line due to the constant shifting quick sand and mud that varies in depth,” said rescue officer Simon Bale.

“If you become stuck in the mud, don’t struggle but instead spread your weight and dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

“Anyone sighting someone out in the mud is encouraged to dial 999 straight away.”

n Sunday evening saw the team take its mud rescue equipment to Steart Point near Combwich in reponse to a report of a yacht aground.

Burnham-on-Sea’s lifeboat arrived on scene and was able to pull the stranded vessel back into the water so that it could be towed to Burnham for safety.
