THE West Somerset Miniature Rifle League contested by Minehead and Williton Target Shooting Clubs finished with the second leg of the contest for the Northrop Cup.

The winner of the cup is the team that most exceeds its declared average over the two legs.

The first leg saw Williton A take a narrow lead over Minehead A with Williton B not far behind.

At the end of the shoot on the Williton Range the positions were very different!

Williton A had a poor shoot, scoring 274 compared to 283 the previous week.

Williton B in contrast had an exceptional shoot scoring 281 compared to 274 the previous week.

When the scores from the two legs were put together Williton B were found to have won the cup followed by Minehead A and Minehead B with Williton A previous high-flyers in last place.

The league has now finished after 20 weeks of shoulder-to-shoulder matches.

Minehead A won the gun score competition and Williton A the handicap one.

Williton won 3 of the 4 cups available. Minehead won all three individual competitions with Mark Parfrey taking the overall one, Pippa Sullivan the Ladies and Bill Smyth the Veterans.

Overall honours were shared.
