LAST Wednesday saw 39 young athletes from West Somerset College compete in the Sedgemoor District Athletics Competition, and some outstanding performances resulted in 16 of them being selected to represent the district at the county championships on Saturday June 11.
Those selected were:
Junior Boys - Martell Payn 100 metres, Todd Willis 800m, Ewan Bartlett Jones 1500m, Brendon Pentland shot putt.
Intermediate Boys - Lamar Benton 100m, Tyler Hoy high jump.
Senior Boys - James Day long jump and triple jump, Elliot Scott 400m.
Junior Girls - Emily Kingston 100 and 200m, Kaylyn Porter discus. Intermediate Girls - Lucy Curtis 100 and 200m, Hollie Webber 100m, Gabby Gower 800m, Charlotte Sutcliffe 800m, Lucy Coady shot putt, Hannah Delbridge discus.
Coach and PE teacher Jill Windsor said: “I am thrilled with the positive response from our students and look forward to seeing them train to compete at the next level up.”
A keen athlete herself, Jill is keen to put West Somerset, who once dominated local athletics, back on the map.
