TWO late goals saw Staplegrove win the local derby 2-0 with Watchet at a bitterly cold Memorial Ground in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League.

Again, the Red & Blacks could justifiably feel a little hard done by at the final outcome after making life difficult for their opponents and pushing them all the way in another hard working team performance.

With keeper Jack Harding unwell captain Charley Clausen's return saw him deputise in goal, but he could only watch as an early visiting attempt rattled against an upright. Watchet settled down to have an even share of the play in a first half where neither keeper had many saves to make.

Billy Jones made inroads into the area from the right flank only to drag his shot wide of the near post and Olly Hall's effort from outside the box was comfortably saved.

The home side were forced into early changes with youngsters Ollie Webber and Harvey Henderson retiring, but they reached halftime with the scoresheet blank.

Staplegrove enjoyed more possession after the interval, but Watchet continued to defend well despite centre back Connor Jeromson also going off injured before the hour while Aerron Clausen was sinbinned for his protests about the offending challenge.

Charley Clausen handled low crosses and punched away a series of dangerous inswinging corners immaculately until he spilt one with seven minutes left and the loose ball was prodded home.

Watchet had penalty appeals turned down as the referee awarded the visitors a free kick when Pat Reed and keeper Locke collided before salt was rubbed into Watchet's wounds when Bidgeway scored a second with the last kick of the game.
