WATCHET Town avenged an early season defeat at Minehead by beating their neighbours 1-0 at home in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League yesterday (Sat).

Playing before a crowd estimated at 500, Watchet won the game with a goal by teenage winger Alfie Cox four minutes into the second half of a competitive game, rifling home from eight yards out.

A player from each side was sin-binned in the second half with Minehead finishing with only ten men.

Elsewhere, Staplegrove maintained their four-point lead at the top of the table with a 7-2 home victory over lowly Combe St Nicholas who have managed only two victories this season.

Watchet stay third in the table while Minehead are sixth.
