ALL THE top three teams in the Premier Division of the Watchet and District Men’s Skittles League won their respective fixtures this week, writes league secretary Alan Bulpin.
In their home match, division leaders Bottoms Up needed an exemplary score of 136 from Brandon Walsh to see off the challenge of Three Ferrets - by a single pin, Alex Bland hitting 119 for the visitors.
Second placed Bell All Stars had Warren Knight in equally fine form as he hit an impressive 133 in the 89 pin victory over Has Beens whose Mark Clausen hit 104.
Castaways move into third spot after Steve Duck, with a hand of 112, led them to a 56 pin success against White Horse Stallions, for whom Ali Benham scored 101.
High flying Allsorts slipped to a 67 pin away defeat at the hands of Rebels whose James Parish scored 118, while Ian Clapp scored 96 for the guests.
Mid table Railway Steamers picked up a valuable three points, defeating Phoenix Knights by 36 pins, Dan Gilpin hitting 117 for the Steamers, and Connor Jeromson 106 for the Knights.
Another closely fought match was played out at the British Legion where Mike Stout and Archie Walsh both knocked 115 foe Q C Guys as they pipped Jack to the points by a single pin, Steve Bosley scoring 114 for the home side. Highest Away Score: Archie Walsh 144 Q C Guys.
Two of the top three sides in Division A failed to register wins this week. An understrength Wyndham Pinheads lost their home match against Haddon Hillbillies by 16 pins whose Ian Rottenbury topped the alley with 103, Sam Towells scoring 103 for the home side.
Paul Coles scored 103 for Barn Owls as they recorded a 11 pin home victory over third placed Dungbeetles whose Tyler Kendall hit 93.
In the Tuesday night match at the Wyndham Arms between Wyndham Warriors and Williton Club, the away side got off to a flying start, establishing a 23 pin half time lead. The Warriors staged a fightback in the second half, reducing the deficit to 11 pins with two hands remaining, but were unable to overcome the Club’s scoring, losing the match by 16 pins.
New signing Darren Towells, with 110, led the Williton Club’s scoring in a 16-pin success against W’dham Warriors whose Phil Trunks knocked 104.
Gavin Badger 99 topped the alley for Footy Fockers as they ran out 50 pin winners over Dizzy’s Boys whose Mark Mossman hit 94. Away Score: Phil Champion 126 Wyndham Warriors.
