MINEHEAD Barbarians RFC travel to Bridgwater & Albion this Saturday, October 31, looking to bounce back from a disappointing home defeat against Taunton last weekend.

Director of Rugby Luke Milton said: “The boys are always disappointed to lose at home, but credit to Taunton, who were the better team and played the conditions well. Nobody can fault our boys’ effort, and captain and man of the match Bruce Bullard typified that commitment. However, we simply didn’t do enough things well enough.”

Saturday’s fixture at Bridgwater will mark the first time the two clubs have met in a league match, making it a historic occasion for both sides.

Milton added: “I know seeing us play Bridgwater in a league fixture will be a huge moment for many people involved with the club. We’re really looking forward to going up there.

“They’ve won all five of their league games so far, so we know we face a tough challenge. However, we believe we can compete, and hopefully the occasion will bring plenty of supporters from both clubs out to watch what should be a great local derby.”

Minehead received a boost last weekend with the return of Jack White and Ben Willes, who both made their first appearances of the season. Their experience and quality will be valuable additions to the forward pack as the Barbarians look to challenge Bridgwater’s unbeaten record.

Veteran Ben Allerton was also rewarded for some impressive second XV performances with an opportunity at inside centre.

Meanwhile, Minehead’s second XV welcome Wincanton this weekend following an outstanding away victory against Hornets at Weston which was played in biblical rain

Milton concluded: “We continue to train well, with great numbers and we could have a few more players returning from injury. There’s a real positive feeling around the squad, and we’re looking forward to another big weekend for the club.”
