LEADERSHIP of the Premier Division in the Watchet & District Men’s Skittles League has swung in favour of Bell All Stars as Barrie Jones, with 111, led them to a 30 pin home win over the Phoenix Knights whose Brandon Jones scored a noteworthy 109, writes league secretary Alan Bulpin.
Previous joint leaders Bottoms Up slipped to a 27 away defeat to Railway Steamers who had Callum Tarr hitting 114. Ross Sweetland knocked 98 for the visitors. The next round of matches sees the top two teams play each other.
A fine 125 from Castaways’ Nick Lane keeps them in third place after recording a 40 pin home win over Has Beens, for whom Mark Clausen scored 110.
Allsorts remain fourth after Shane Coxhead hit 121 in the 102 pin home victory against White Horse Stallions, Ben Wilson felling 112 for the guests. Peg Perkins, with 107, led Jack to a 14 pin away success over Three Ferrets, for whom Tyrone Ash hit 107, while a creditable score of 123 from Rebels’ James Parish helped them to a 52 pin away win over Q C Guys whose Mark Willis hit 109. Highest Away: Archie Walsh 144 Q C Guys.
With favourable results either Dungbeetles, Williton Club or Wyndham Pinheads could secure the Division A title in the final league week of the season.
Dungbeetles were playing away to Dizzy’s Boys and despite a valiant 110 from Aaron Kendall had to settle for a draw with both sides hitting 575, Mark Mossman scoring 108 for the Boys.
A win for leaders Williton Club would secure the title but with four hands remaining it was looking unlikely as they were 14 pins down. But in a remarkable last four hands they managed to pull 47 pins, inflicting a 33 pin defeat on Barn Owls to be champions. Barn Owls’ George Pike hit 112, while Club’s Darren Towells and Roger Mitcheal also returned scores of 112.
Sam Towells topped the alley for Wyndham Pinheads as they defeated Watchet Specials to take the runners up spot; they are three points behind Williton Club with just a home match to play. Dan Perkins hit 102 for the Specials.
Haddon Hillbillies’ Ian Rottenbury topped the alley with 116 as they ran out winners by 5 pins in their away match against Footy Fockers whose Gavin Badger hit 104.
Wyndham Warriors ended their season with a 98 pin away win against Rams, Chris Williams hitting 103 for the visitors with Leigh Davis knocking 85 for the home side. Highest Away: Phil Champion 126 Wyndham Warriors
