MINEHEAD Barbarians Rugby Club will be staging a double-header on their ground this coming weekend (March 7).

The first team play Chew Valley 2nd XV in Counties Two Somerset South while the 2nd XV are in action against Tor in Counties Four Somerset South.

Minehead’s senior side will be looking to keep up the pressure at the top of the table. They are currently lying third and trail leaders Burnham on Sea by 15 points but have two matches in hand.

Minehead go into the game against Chew Valley, who are lying ninth in the table, having not played since they beat St Bernadettes Old Boys convincingly at home in mid-February.

However, they are still very much in the mix because they still have to play leaders Burnham on Sea and second placed Clevedon - both games scheduled to be played next month. The Babas were due to play away to Keynsham 2nd XV in a league match last weekend but the game was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

Fixtures: Hornets v Keynsham , Imperial v St Bernadettes Old Boys, Minehead Barbarians v Chew Valley, Oldfield Old Boys v Avon, Burnham on Sea v Castle Cary.

Meanwhile Minehead Seconds, lying fifth in the table, should prove too strong for Tor who are bottom, with only two wins from 14 matches.

The Seasiders, who still have eight more games to play this season, have matches in hand on all the teams above them.

The table is headed by Burnham on Sea who have an eight-point lead at the top, but have played two more fixtures than second-placed Morganians. Somerton are third, one point behind Morganians.

Fixtures: Minehead Barbarians v Tor, Morganians v Wells, Somerton v Wincanton, Burnham on Sea v Yeovil.
