PORLOCK travelled to Burnham to take on the team one place above them in Division Two South of the Somerset Women's Football League - but, unfortunately, suffered a 2-1 defeat.

It proved to be a closely fought encounter, with both teams a bit rusty after several weeks off, and both having to cope with a bobbly pitch with long grass. The low sun, while a welcome change from the recent rains, also made things difficult.

However, Porlock got off to a decent start and were delighted when a long ball from Amber was chased down by Meghan on the left wing who managed to get into the box. Her shot was fumbled by the goalie and crept over the line, resulting in her first goal for Porlock! Burnham created few chances in the first half, but one of their attacks resulted in the baffling award of a penalty. Porlock's keeper, Laura, made a fine effort to save it, but the penalty kick had enough power on it to beat her, and it was 1-1 at the break.Porlock's defence were stretched at times but battled well, and their wingers made numerous runs to try and get in behind Burnham’s experienced defenders. Eventually a Porlock goal kick was not cleared out well enough, and a Burnham midfielder struck an unstoppable shot from outside the box which dipped just under the crossbar.

In the last 15 minutes Porlock tried relentlessly to get an equaliser, with every player doing their best and showing their usual determination to fight until the final whistle. Despite losing 2-1, Porlock left the field with heads held high, knowing that they had taken part in a fair, competitive and enjoyable match.

As can be seen in the post-match photo, Porlock are still smiling and looking good in their cracking away kit, courtesy of Maitland Walker.

Player of the match was Meghan for her first goal and numerous good runs down the wing.
