MICK Orton will be continuing as head coach of Minehead Barbarians Rugby Club next season, writes Barry Knott.

Orton, who is in his second spell with the West Somerset club, said yesterday: “This season has been one of two halves for the first team. We did not have injuries and unavailability issues before Christmas.

“What is encouraging is the future. We have talent coming through and we’re making progress. The players at the moment are really making the club proud

“I want to develop the coaching side of the club and anyone interested in this can get in touch with me (07850 962137).

Meanwhile Minehead’s two sides both have league games away to Wells on Saturday week - and both will be chasing league doubles.

Minehead’s first team, who lost 24-12 at home to Chew Valley last weekend, beat Wells 42-17 at the beginning of the season when the Babas went on to enjoy a fine run of home wins.

Minehead 2nd XV beat their counterparts 74-15 at home on the same Saturday as the firsts.

Minehead are lying sixth in Counties Two Somerset, having won 11 of their 21 fixtures while the 2nds are fifth in Counties Four Somerset South, with nine wins from 16 games.
