THE 2025 golfing season at Oake Manor Golf Club teed off in style with the ever popular Captains’ Drive In which welcomed more than 200 enthusiastic golfers for a day packed with friendly competition, laughter and a strong sense of community spirit.
This year’s event marked the official start of the captaincy of club captain Richard Goodman, ladies captain Daphne Priddy and seniors captain Mike Amos.
Unfortunately, Mike was unable to attend but next years’ seniors captain Nick Mitchell kindly stepped in to complete the traditional ceremonial drive.
One of the standout moments of the day was the sea of yellow mini flags lining the 1st hole as players guessed where Richard’s and Daphne’s opening drives would land.
Congratulations to Kate Foster and Mitch Wareing who both accurately placed their flags. Beyond the fun and festivities, the day had a powerful charitable impact, raising an impressive £1,737 for this year’s chosen cause: Children’s Hospice South West. Special thanks go to Louise Purchase , whose heartfelt donation of £120 from the sale of roses on Mothering Sunday contributed to the total.
The competition was fierce but friendly with some fantastic scores posted: 1st place: James Sussex, Joe Lawer, Daniel Mayo and Jack Grant – 111 points; 2nd place: Shane Bordier, John Byrne, Tamsin St George and Thomas Bordier – 108 points; 3rd place: club captain Richard Goodman, Liz How, Nick Mitchell and Mary Beakes – 107 points.
The day was a resounding success and the perfect way to kick off the season. A huge thank you goes to everyone who took part, donated and helped make the event so special. Here’s to a fantastic year of golf ahead at Oake Manor.
On Sunday the annual spring mixed greensomes competition was played for the Pattemore Cup and the winners on count back were Kate Foster and Steve Cross with Amanda Mather and Richard Clist second.
